The Upper Ohio River Valley is rich with the history of the beginning of the United States Government. George Washington himself
scouted this region, made land claims and after the Revolutionary War, he encourged the settlement of the region along the
Ohio River. Slaves were brought by the early settlers along the the Ohio River in Virginia (West Virginia sinces
1863). Slavery was prohibited in the Northwest Teritorry. Thus the Ohio River was part of the Mason-Dixon Line which divided
the slave states from free states. If you want to know more about the Institution of Slavery, the Underground Railroad
or the Civil War, read my books!
